Will Ferrell predicts DK Metcalf TD, shows off football IQ during Seahawks vs. Giants ‘Manningcast’

By | October 2, 2023

Will Ferrell has starred as a basketball player, race car driver and soccer coach in his movies, but he might have a career as a real-life football coach.

The actor/comedian was a guest on Week 4 of the “Manningcast”, ESPN’s alternate broadcast of “Monday Night Football,” joining Peyton and Eli Manning while watching the Seahawks vs. Giants contest.

When Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf opened the scoring with a six-yard TD reception to end the first quarter, it wasn’t either of the Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks that were predicting the play.

It was Ferrell, who correctly called for quarterback Geno Smith to find Metcalf in the back corner of the end zone.

“Throw it in the corner,” Ferrell shouted out at Smith. “Throw it up. Jump ball. In the corner.”

Ferrell may not have been 100-percent accurate in his prediction, as Smith opted to throw a dart to Metcalf rather than a jump ball. But it was enough to impress both of the Manning brothers, as Eli slapped Ferrell’s face on the “Perfect Prediction Panel,” joining John McEnroe.

“Congratulations Will,” the younger Manning brother said. “Another lifelong dream of yours.”

Is Will Ferrell a Seahawks fan?

Ferrell is a part of the “12th Man” in Seattle. The 56-year-old actor has supported the Seahawks for over a decade now.

It didn’t start out that way when he was growing up. Ferrell is a graduate of USC, where he earned a degree in sports information. While he rooted for the Trojans, he also became a fan of Pete Carroll, who was USC’s head coach from 2001–2009.

When Carrol rejoined the NFL ranks in 2010 to take the Seattle head coaching job, Ferrell’s fandom went with him, as the Seahawks became his primary NFL team to cheer for.

The Seahawks have had Ferrell join in on a number of festivities with the team. While he has attended numerous games at Lumen Field, perhaps the most notable incident involving Ferrell and the Seahawks came during the COVID-19 pandemic, when the actor impersonated tight end Greg Olsen on one of the team’s Zoom calls.

There was no questioning Ferrell’s devotion to the Seahawks before, but now there shouldn’t be anyone doubting his football knowledge either.
