The 49ers and Seahawks both enter the 2025 NFL season looking a bit different and with hopes of mounting a bounce-back campaign. The division rivals will clash right off the bat this weekend, meeting in Seattle to see which NFC West team has more juice to kick off the year.
For the Seahawks, Geno Smith is out, but 2024 breakout quarterback Sam Darnold is in. Seattle has also said goodbye to D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett, so Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Kenneth Walker III will be the primary skill-position weapons for new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak. Many ‘Hawks fans are ready for their squad to run, run, run.
For San Francisco, the departure of Deebo Samuel to Washington and the recovery of Brandon Aiyuk (knee) means Christian McCaffrey and George Kittle will be as vital to Brock Purdy’s success as ever. Kyle Shanahan also has a couple shiny new toys to work with, though, in newly acquired back Brian Robinson Jr. and second-year wideout Ricky Pearsall (he’s healthy this time around).
