In a new tweet sent out earlier Thursday, Gunn showed off the title page for the script, which was jokingly credited as being written by James “Long Elf” Gunn. The first draft of the script is dated as of April 22, 2021, although Gunn did note in a reply that he had written the treatment for the television special years ago.
Not too much is known about the television special, but Gunn did give fans a bit of information in replies to his initial tweet. When asked about a potential release date, Gunn noted that they are aiming for a release during “Christmastime” in 2022. Gunn also confirmed that the film will be taking place after the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder film, but before the third Guardians of the Galaxy film.

The first Guardians of the Galaxy film was a surprise smash hit for Disney, dropping during the second phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to near-universal praise. The film’s humor and unique take on the superhero genre earned it an instant fanbase, and the titular Guardians became some of the most popular heroes in the MCU. With the group set to return in a third film slated for sometime in 2023, fans will get the chance to first see them participating in some holiday hijinks beforehand.
