How To Catch Calyrex

Calyrex can be caught as a story reward after completing the Legendary Clue 1 questline given to you by Peony in Freezington.

You’ll find Calyrex at the Crown Shrine where you must battle and catch it. Calyrex is Level 80, so make sure you have a capable team and plenty of Poke Balls.

How To Get Glastrier and Spectrier

Glastrier and Spectrier are Calyrex’s steeds that it bonds with as part of the Legendary Clue 1 questline. You’ll only be able to obtain one of them as part of the story, depending on where you choose to plant the carrot seeds.

Glastrier is a Psychic / Ice-type Pokemon, while Spectrier is a Psychic / Ghost-type Pokemon.

Speak with the old man tending to the crops in the center of Freezington to obtain Carrot Seeds, which you can trade for by giving him 8 Dynite Ore.

Calyrex will eventually tell you that you need to plant the Carrot Seeds in some soil to grow a special carrot. Depending on where you plant the Carrot Seeds will determine which steed you’ll acquire.

If you plant your Carrot Seeds in the frozen soil at Snowside Slope, you’ll end up with an Iceroot Carrot – which will summon Glastrier.

Snowside Slope is located north of Giant’s Bed. You’ll see the frozen soil near some ruins.

If you plant your Carrot Seeds in the haunted soil at the Old Cemetery, you’ll end up with a Shaderoot Carrot – which will summon Spectrier.

The Old Cemetery is located east of Giant’s Bed. The haunted soil you’re looking for is contained within a small set of ruins.

After completing the remainder of the story quest and catching Calyrex, you’ll also have your steed of choice, as well.

However, Calyrex mounts its steed by default thanks to the Reins of Unity key item, making it a singular Pokemon by default.

Although they are unified thanks to the Reins of Unity at first, you can separate Calyrex from Glastrier and Spectrier if you want to use them as two different Pokemon in battle.

In order to separate Calyrex from Glastrier and Spectrier you’ll need to do the following:

1. Open your menu with ‘X’ and select ‘Bag’
2. Find the ‘Reins of Unity’ in your ‘Key Items‘ pocket and use it on Calyrex.
3. If you have an open slot in your party Calyrex will transform, separating itself from either Glastrier or Spectrier, whichever you have.
4. To reunite them, simply select the ‘Reins of Unity’ again and use it on Calyrex. It will ask which Pokemon you’d like to unite it with – select either Glastrier or Spectrier depending on which is in your party.

Note: When separating Calyrex from Glastrier or Spectrier it will forget its special move associated with mounting the steed. If you have Glastrier, you’ll no longer be able to use the special move Glacial Lance. If you have Spectrier, you’ll no longer be able to use the special move Astral Barrage. Once you reunite Calyrex with its steed you’ll learn the corresponding special move again.
