Batwoman: Ruby Rose open to reprising Kate Kane role in the future
Nearly a year since Ruby Rose’s surprising exit from The CW’s Batwoman, the Australian actress has opened up about her consideration of the possibility of returning to the Arrowverse to reprise her role as Kate Kane and despite the sudden nature of her departure, the door isn’t closed for her.

Speaking with Comic Book Movie, Rose revealed that she’s absolutely open to return in the future as long as it made sense for the story, however, she believes that it’s more important right now to focus on telling the story of Javicia Leslie’s new Batwoman and praised how the show beautifully handled the character’s introduction.
“I mean, I’m obviously moving on to other roles as I think I’ve done about three films since. I would totally do it,”Rose said. “I don’t think it would serve the story because I think building the new Batwoman is more important than going back too far into Kate Kane, but of course I would, I would absolutely do anything they wanted as far as that [Laughs]. I haven’t watched the whole thing, but I’ve watched a couple of episodes, and I think how they’re handling it is beautiful. I think it’s her time to shine.”
After Ruby Rose’s sudden departure back in May, Javicia Leslie was cast as the new lead of the series and became the first Black actress to play Batwoman in a live-action TV or film production. She portrays the role of Ryan Wilder, who is likable, messy, a little goofy and untamed and is nothing like Kate Kane, the woman who wore the Batsuit before her.
Season 2 will also feature new cast members Shivani Ghai (Dominion) as Safiyah, Leah Gibson as The Whisper, Nathan Owens as Ocean, and Alex Morf as Victor Zsasz as well as the introduction of DC villain Black Mask.
Technically, Kate Kane wasn’t the only character to adopt the Batwoman persona in DC’s comic book universe. Almost 50 years before Kate debuted in 2005, Kathy Kane became the first superhero to use this alias in 1956 during the Silver Age. But since her name is so similar to her modern successor, an appearance by this iteration of the hero was probably never in the cards.
The first season starred Ruby Rose as Kate Kane/Batwoman, Rachel Skarsten as Alice, Meagan Tandy (Teen Wolf) as Sophie Moore, Camrus Johnson (Luke Cage) as Luke Fox, Nicole Kang (You) as Mary Hamilton, Dougray Scott as Jacob Kane and Elizabeth Anweis as Catherine Hamilton-Kane.

Based on the characters from DC, Batwoman is from Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television with executive producers Greg Berlanti, Caroline Dries, Geoff Johns, and Sarah Schechter. David Nutter and Marcos Siega executive produced the pilot.
Season 2 will return for new episodes on March 14.
